The Killers haben die neue Single “boy” veröffentlicht.

Der Song stammt nicht von ihrem aktuellen Album “Pressure Machine“, das letztes Jahr erschienen ist, sondern ist bereits vorher zu Beginn der Corona-Pandemie entstanden und hat den Sound des aktuellen Longplayers beeinflusst, wie Frontmann Brandon Flowers erklärt:
“This was the first song written after we had to cancel the Imploding the Mirage tour due to the pandemic. I had recently moved back to Utah and started to make trips to Nephi, where I grew up. I found that the place I had wanted to get away from so desperately at 16 was now a place that I couldn’t stop returning to. I have a son approaching the age I was at that time in my life. With “Boy,” I want to reach out and tell myself—and my sons—to not overthink it. And to look for the “white arrows” in their lives. For me now, white arrows are my wife, children, my songs and the stage.”
Mit „boy“, geschrieben von Flowers, besinnen sich die Killers wieder auf die Anfänge ihrer Karriere und haben eine weitere Synth-Pop-Stadion-Hymne erschaffen. Daher hat es der Song wegen “ästhetischer Gründe” nicht auf das aktuelle Album geschafft.
“Pressure Machine” ist das siebte Album der Band aus Las Vegas und war laut MusikBlog-Review ein Konzeptalbum, das auch den Einfluss von Bruce Springsteen widerspiegelte:
“Immer wieder werden Zitate von aktuellen Bewohnern Nephis eingespielt, die einen authentischen Einblick in das Leben in besagter Kleinstadt geben. [..] Spätestens bei „Quiet Town“ glaubt man, der Boss höchstpersönlich sei am Werk. Eine Mundharmonika, die den Abgesang auf Lyrics wie „Hard working people / If you’re in trouble / They lend you a hand / Here in this quiet town” übernimmt. Kleinstadtromantik vom Feinsten.”
The Killers sind aktuell in den USA auf Tour. Wann sie wieder nach Deutschland kommen, steht noch nicht fest.
