St. Vincent veröffentlichte vor knapp drei Jahren ihr fünftes Studioalbum “Masseduction” (2017), von dem es mittlerweile neben dem Akustik-Re-Work “MassEducation” (2018) auch eine von Nina Kraviz kuratierte Remix-Version gibt.
Nachdem sie sich vor kurzem mit dem Titeltrack „The Eddy“ zur gleichnamigen Netflix-Serie zurückgemeldet hat, gibt es nun erneut neue Musik aus dem Hause Annie Clark, für das sich die amerikanische Musikerin mit dem früheren X-Japan-Sänger Yoshiki zusammengetan hat.
„New York“ nennt sich das neue Stück und ist genau genommen eine Neuinterpretation des “Masseduction”-Tracks aus dem Jahr 2017, der laut St. Vincent durch „Yoshikis Arrangement […] subtil und signifikant verändert [wurde]“:
„It was an honor to work with the amazing Yoshiki on this new version of ‘New York’. Yoshiki’s arrangement added to the song in the way time or distance transform longtime friends or relationships: the original is still recognizable, but subtly and significantly altered.“
Yoshiki sagt zu der Kollaboration Folgendes: „As an artist, I admire how St.Vincent approaches music in an innovative and courageous way […] in terms of ‘New York’, it’s a great song to start with, and I’m grateful that she trusted me to fully rearrange the song with my classical approach. I hope St Vincent’s fans enjoy it, and that my fans will too.“
