Wer da?
The Jezabels, eine Indie-Rock Band, bestehend aus Hayley Mary (Gesang), Samuel Lockwood (Gitarre), Heather Shannon (Keyboard) und Nik Kaloper (Schlagzeug), die sich alle an der Uni kennen gelernt haben.
Woher?
Aus Sydney, der Hauptstadt des australischen Bundesstaates New South Wales in Australien während die musikalische Hauptstadt von Australien bekanntlich Brisbane ist. (Na, wer weiß wie die Hauptstadt von Australien heißt? Kleiner Tip, es ist nicht Sydney).
Und was machen die so für ‘nen Sound?
“Die Kompositionen werden von Heather Shannons fliegendem Synthesizer Teppich getragen, in den Samuel Lockkwoods treibende Gitarre mit den catchy Hooks eingewebt ist. Das Schlagzeug von Nik Kaloper gibt den präzisen Takt vor und darf auf „Beat To Beat“ auch mal energischer zupacken. Das verbindende Element bleibt aber auch auf „The Brink“ die über allen, zwischen Himmelhoch jauchzend (manchmal haarscharf am Kitsch vorbei schrammend) und zu Tode betrübt schwebende Stimme von Sängerin Haley Mary. Die schafft es nämlich, die Refrains der Songs so zu präsentieren, dass mindestens einer für den Rest des Tages „Like A Rollercoaster“, um einmal aus „No Country“ zu zitieren, durch die Gehörgänge saust.” (MusikBlog, Feb. 2014)

Wie heute angekündigt wurde, kommt das neue Album “SYNTHIA” (hat es etwas mit Synthesizern zu tun?) am 12. Februar, also kurz vor der weltweiten Tour, in alle gut sortierten Plattenläden, Online-Stores und Streamingmaschinen.

Die Tour muss leider aufgrund des Gesundheitszustandes von Keyboarderin Heather Shannon vorerst abgesagt werden. Wir wünschen gute Besserung!
Das Statement der Band dazu:
“Three years ago Heather was diagnosed with a unique type of ovarian cancer. Although she has been able to maintain life as usual generally, between treatments, the time has come for her to undergo further immediate treatment which will require her to stay in Sydney. We were very excited to be hitting the road again in support of our third album, SYNTHIA, but sadly due to a sudden turn of events Heather’s condition requires attention now so touring in the proposed time frame is no longer possible.”
Heather’s persönliches Statement dazu:
“Up until now, I have preferred to not let this diagnosis get in the way of getting on with life. I feel a deep frustration at this new roadblock, as I now have to take a step back and undergo treatment. The band means so much to me, and cancelling the tour has been a very sad decision. I am hopeful that in the near future we will be back on the road again playing music we love. This album means so much to us, and we were so looking forward to sharing it live with everyone. Having said that, I feel very lucky to be in the care of the public health system here in Australia. I have met many inspiring people and I am receiving the best treatment possible. There is a lot of research going into ovarian cancer at the moment, and a big push for awareness.”
